2023 Cincinnati Suburbs Tournament - Round 2

Round 1 Errors

Since this was the first time of me doing this, I figured there would be some mistakes. Rest assured, mistakes were indeed made. People pointed out that I forgot to add Reading to the bracket since Reading touches the Cincinnati neighborhood of Roselawn. I also made the mistake of including North Bend instead of Addyston. North Bend doesn’t actually touch the city limits of Cincinnati, but Addyston does. If this becomes an annual event, North Bend will be removed next year and Addyston will be included in its place. My apologies to the village of Addyston, which also happens to be located in Miami Township. I’m telling you, things get real weird when you examine suburban communities, so in my defense, examining boarders is tricky depending on what map you look at. Lastly, there’s some debate surrounding if Deer Park actually touches the Cincinnati border. Friend of the blog, Deer Park Councilmember Neil Kelly, pointed out that Deer Park may touch the Cincinnati neighborhood of Kennedy Heights. So it may be 26 neighborhoods in a future bracket instead of 24, which is totally fine.

Round 1 Results

In the 3-Way Region:

  • #16 seed North College Hill knocked off #17 Mt. Healthy and will move on to round 2 to face off against #1 seed, Indian Hill.

  • #9 seed Mariemont knocked off lowly #24 seed Arlington Heights and will advance ot round 2 to take on Amberley Village. I was told multiple times that Mariemont was severely under-seeded at a 9 seed, so I’m expecting them to breeze by Amberley Village as well. Mistakes like these happens when a west sider begins expressing uninformed opinions about east side places.

In the Coney Bracket:

  • #13 seed Norwood had a strong showing against #20 seed North Bend (again, a place that actually doesn’t touch the City of Cincinnati’s borders. My mistake, I’ll do better next time). Norwood will now advance to take on #4 seed Sycamore Township.

  • #12 seed Cheviot, one of my personal favorite west side communities, knocked off #21 Fairfax. Cheviot will advance to round 2 to take on #5 seed Anderson Township, a juggernaut among east side Cincinnati suburbs.

In the Chili Cheese Fry Region:

  • #15 seed St. Bernard knocked off #18 Elmwood Place in round 1. St. Bernard will now take on #2 seed Wyoming in round 2.

  • #10 seed Colerain knocked off #23 seed Lockland, advancing to round 2 to take on #7 seed Columbia Township. I was told the Chili Cheese Fry is the weakest region in the bracket. I assume Wyoming will easily come out of that region and make it to the Final 4.

In the Greek Salad Region:

  • #19 seed Silverton upset #14 seed Springfield Township. I personally have never been a big fan of Springfield Township, so I was happy to see Silverton advance. Silverton will now take on #3 seed Madeira.

  • #11 Delhi Township, despite all of its flaws, was able to fend off #22 seed Golf Manor. However, Delhi will now take on #6 seed Green Township in round 2. I look at these as very similar communities, but one is clearly ‘nicer’ than the other. I’d also argue one is even a bit more welcoming to all people, but don’t let my own biases get in the way of your voting. My opinion is that there are only four places worthwhile in Delhi: the Kroger, the Subway, my dentist and the Sweets n’ Eats ice cream shop that is open only in the warmer months. Delhi residents, feel free to send me your hate mail. I could probably write a 10-page paper regarding my thoughts on Delhi Township, and the first place I’d start is how they let Dusty Rhodes be their proverbial mascot for the past 35 years.
