2023 Cincinnati Suburbs Tournament - Round 3
The Elite Eight
We’ve reached the Elite Eight of the Cincinnati Suburbs Tournament. We are left with North College Hill, Mariemont, Norwood, Anderson Township, Wyoming, Columbia Township, Madeira and Green Township. Let’s recap what happened in Round 2.
3-Way Region:
16 seed North College Hill continues to surprise, knocking off Indian Hill, the bracket’s top overall seed. As Shaq once said, I owe you an apology, North College Hill. I was unfamiliar with your game. Of course, it may have more to do with people’s disdain for an exclusive suburb where only the wealthiest Cincinnatians are allowed to live. North College hill will advance and face off against 9 seed Mariemont, a matchup that will be challenging.
9 seed Mariemont knocked off 8 seed Amberley Village. I’d call it an upset if people didn’t roast me for underseeding Mariemont to begin with. They will advance and face off against one of the bracket’s cinderalla stories, North College Hill.
Coney Region:
4 seed Sycamore Township was upset by 13 seed Norwood. If I’m being honest, I don’t know a ton about Sycamore Township. What I do know a lot about is Norwood being on the come up. Is this sudden surge in Norwood popularity related to the new Factory 52 development? Norwood is suddenly one of the cool and hip suburbs, particularly among young people. Norwood is the other cinderella story!
12 seed Cheviot had a massive come-from-behind win against 5 seed Anderson. Cheviot had been trailing all day, but squeked ahead in the final minutes of the matchup. I have a strong affinity for Cheviot. They will advance to face-off against Twitter darling, Norwood. A match between two giants in their own right.
Chili Cheese Fry Region
2 seed Wyoming knocked off 15 seed St. Bernard, something that shocked no one. In my own personal opinion, Wyoming is a top notch suburb and their school district / housing stock reflects that.
Sadly, 10 seed Colerain Township was edged out by 7 seed Columbia Township. Being a west sider, my knowledge of Columbia Township is quite limited. Wyoming and Columbia Towbship will face off in the Elite Eight.
Greek Salad Region
3 seed Madeira, a strong contender for winning the entire bracket, knocked off 19 seed Silverton. The two areas are geographically close to eachother, but Madeira is much wealthier. But gives props to a small place live Silverton being quite popular from what people were saying on Twitter.
6 seed Green Township edged out Delhi Township with 53% of the vote. Again, these two areas are extremely similar to eachother. It was probably a mistake on my part to put them in the same region. If two townships could be siblings, Green and Delhi would be it. I figured Delhi was going to be blown out of the water, but they held their own. My biggest beef with Delhi are the backwards political beliefs. Returning to the sibling analogy, Delhi Township would be your crazy Q-anon uncle that shows up at Thanksgiving spreading conspiracy theories. Green Township is also your uncle, but he’s a he’s a big shot executive at P&G and votes Republican because he doesn’t care about poor people.
